Security Systems
SurveillanceSo far we have decided what detection devices are to be use, where these are to be located and what shall be on each zone. He now need to look at the cable runs and what will be on each circuit. For this example we will use six core cable but remember we will need two of these cores for a tamper circuit in each cable run.
If you refer to the transparent sheet marked “overlay B” and place it over the shop plan, we see an example of suggested cable runs. Also shown is a circuit description, that is: a description of the colour code used and the devices on each circuit. A point to remember, when deciding on a colour code it is advisable to keep the same code throughout the installation otherwise unnecessary complications can arise. The colour code I have chosen for this installation is just an example and you can decide on your own for later projects.
Once the preceding points have been dealt with then the next step is to physically install the system. The first part of the system to be installed should be all the cable runs, starting from the control panel and working towards the detection devices. When all the cables have been fitted then the detection devices can be installed and connected. (For more information on cables see section “hardware and wiring”.)
The next item to be fitted is the outside bell. Try to ensure that the cable enters directly into the back of the box and not along the outside wall. This will decrease the risk of tampering. Note: when fitting the S.A.B. Unit you will not be able to connect the bell as there will be no power for the hold-off voltage, since the control panel has not yet been fitted. The final step in the installation is fitting the control panel.
