Cable
Below is given a specification for the main types of cable used in security systems

From the above specification we can see that alarm cable comes in four core sizes. To facilitate the ease of identification of each core a different colour is used, and this is given below.

Since every cable needs a tamper circuit it stands to reason that the smallest cable size is a four core. That is two for the alarm circuit and two for the tamper circuit. If, however, we need to run a cable to a detector requiring a voltage supply, such as a motion detector, then we would use a six core. That is two for the alarm circuit, two for the tamper and two for voltage.
