Security Systems
SurveillanceWhere two or more cables need to be joined together then a junction box of the appropriate size should be used. Different types of boxes are available depending on the number of cables to be joined. All boxes should home a tamper switch fitted to prevent any interference with the system. Below we see one of the more popular types which is suitable for about two to three cables.

SOME TYPICAL JUNCTIONS
The following shows some situations where auction boxes could be used and the wiring arrangement required.
TWO CONTACTS IN SERIES

EXERCISE
Below we see two P.A. buttons to be wired back to the control panel using a four core cable and a junction box. See if you can draw in the wiring arrangement for the junction box. Note: The P.A. buttons will be wired in series just like the contacts in the previous example.

EXERCISE
An eight core cable has been run to a motion detector to enable a p.a. Button to be sited as seen below. See if you can work out the wiring arrangement for the junction box. Note: only the correct number of wires have been cut from the cable to keep the number of connections to a minimum. See overlay for answer.
