Security Systems
SurveillanceAs the name suggests these buttons are used to activate the alarm system in the event of a threat to personal safety. They are simple open or closed switches connected to their own specific zone on the control panel and are operated by hand. Because a threat to personal safety can occur at any time this zone will give a full activation of the system with the alarm switched off or on. (see section on control panels for more information on personal attack zones).

OPERATION OF PERSONAL ATTACK BUTTONS
Below we see an exploded view of a center push p.a. Button. The switching arrangement is normally performed by a reed and magnet construction which operates on the same principle as the magnetic reed contact mentioned earlier in this section.
P.A. Buttons are normally closed switches until the button is pressed where upon the circuit opens. This means that they can be wired in series on the same detection loop.

LOCATION OF BUTTONS
For a domestic house pa buttons are sited beside the front door and beside the bed in the main bedroom.
For commercial premises they are sited beside the reception desk or cash desk.
